Kaizer Chiefs have completed the signing of Bafana Bafana international winger Elias Mokwana, the club confirmed on Wednesday.
The 27-year-old joins as a free agent after leaving Tunisian side Espérance in September and will add both width and a central attacking threat, if needed, to the Chiefs forward line.
“A dynamic winger blessed with pace, directness and attacking creativity, Mokwana adds quality, experience and international pedigree to Chiefs’ attacking options as the Club continues to strengthen its squad,” Chiefs said in a statement.
Mokwana first rose to prominence after joining Sekhukhune United from Platinum City Rovers.
He signed for Espérance in August 2024, making 38 appearances, scoring seven goals and providing four assists, but after one season was loaned to Saudi Arabian side Al-Hazem, where he made 26 appearances, scoring once and providing three assists.
It was during his spell in Saudi Arabia that he lost his place in the Bafana Bafana side, having made his international debut in March 2024. He subsequently missed out on selection for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Mokwana featured for Espérance at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup and returns to South African football with greater experience.
He will now hope to catch the eye of national team coach Pitso Mosimane ahead of the next Africa Cup of Nations in 2027.
Chiefs have been a little short of options on the right wing, with Wandile Duba increasingly used in a central role.
Asanele Velebayi and Faiz Abrahams are others who can operate in that position.
